Message of the Day (February 21, 2000)

First: Happy New Year, 52 days late. Second: Happy President's Day (for those who celebrate it.

UVR3 is apparently back, after a seven-month-long hiatus from the scene. I posted Section 8 Results onto the site, and as far as I know all of the links work. I will be changing the roster around sometime later today -- I actually had enough downtime today to get some stuff done on it.

Speaking of downtime, on January 31, 2000, I started a new job at National Healthcare Resources, Inc., providing internal technical support. Feel free to drop me a "hello" at one of my new e-mail addresses, Scott.Archer@nhrinc.com.

Before the end of the month, I will (finally) be putting UVR1 up on this site, too. Stay tooned, true believers...

First of all... Apologies for the apparent neglect with the page. My computer is in the midst of doing nasty, naughty stuff and I just recently got it in somewhat of a workable condition. It's an odd thing to accomplish when you stlil have no cash to repair your machine due to the utter lack of employment opportunities in New York City...

Big, big, crazy-big, loco-grande thanks to Jjukil (jjukil@aol.com) for updating my roster page for me. It was the thing I hadn't done in the longest, and people who show interest in continuing works just prove that this is all worthwhile. Drop him a line and thank him, too -- he deserves it.

Today, we're lucky enough to be included in another webring. This morning, Henry Moriarity (webring person of the Fighters to the Finish webring) wrote me, congratulating me on being a new addition to FTTF. So, hopefully this means more hits, and maybe even links to some pretty good sites. Dude, I'm pleased.

On that note, I checked some stats for the page. We average roughly 200 hits per week. I remember when we did that per month...

First and foremost, I'd like to apologize to the faithful readers out there who have been waiting for a page update since sometime last month. I had a few personal problems involving financial stability. They're still not all resolved, but at least I can get here to update the page, now. I'll be looking for a new job shortly, and hopefully do something about my classes.

Anyway, I've put up UVR3 Section Six for your reading pleasure. I can't update the roster today; I can try for later this week. I also have not put up the voting form - I'm sure by now the voting has expired.

Talk to you all soon...

OK... After about the third and fourth resets, I put a plain, vanilla text counter on the page. Now, I know mine won't reset. I'm hoping to do something a bit more snazzy with the page, but I've hidden some JavaScript around the page. Let me know if your browser complains.

I may not have access to change the web site from this Thursday (1/21) until February 10th. Or, more accurately, Thursday through Saturday (1/21 - 1/23) and between 2/8 and 2/10. This is because I am going to New Mexico on vacation (Yeah, I know, how out-of-character). I will have access to read my e-mail, however.

Okay, that tears it. BeSeen.Com is going to get a rather nasty letter from me today... For the second time, they've reset my counters. I think they reset after three months (which they don't tell you). To me, this means we've just been robbed of about 7,000-plus hits. If this isn't an advertisement for "put together your own web counter" then nothing is.

Since this seems to do that whenever we get arund 3500 hits, and it's done this twice, then I'm going to give the following statement:

Add about 7,000 to however many hits BeSeen says we have. When I finally get around to writing one, it'll reflect whatever the correct amount is.

Unless, of course, soemone wants to write the cuonter for me, in which case it'll reflect the amount and earn a page-credit...

You're probably noticing a few odd things here and there. Okay, let me give you an explanation.

I had added a link to the Octagon Rumble message board (owned by K-Dawg). It was on the main blue frame on the UVR homepage. Through Wanderer's infinite wisdom, I realized it didn't belong there - this is the UVR page. I will still make a link to that page available, however, through the MOTD, and through the upcoming UVR Links page. If you're interested, the address of the OR baord is http://pluto.beseen.com/boardroom/d/21060.

Good to see some activity in the IRC channel, and it's also good to see that we are still doing decently hitswise. We're averaging about 1000 hits per month, now. When we get to 5000 hits per month, I'm going to buy myself a drink.

Your suggestions are welcome - this is your board. Tell me what you want...

I love it when a plan comes together...

The Ultimate Video Rumble Resource Page is officially part of the Videogame Fanfiction Webring. Big thanks to Sapfarah` for letting us on. If you're interested, the link on the starting point page (rumble.html) leads right there. Depending on the randomness of the page, one of four pictures will show up - they all lead there.

Now let's see how many hits we get... So far, UVR's page has 4,746 hits (3500 hits before the counter reset in September, and that number was since... what, 4/98?). Thanks for the support so far.

BeSeen.com's counters both reset on me today -- the one on the UVR page and the one on my main home page. I'm going to just code my own -- it's a lot easier.

By the way, in case you're wondering, Wanderer DID send me the new results for Section 3. He just told me not to post them yet; they're still unedited. (I still haven't even gotten around to correcting the mistakes in the previous chapter - the adding mistakes, for instance.)

To make matters worse, I got a job. *grin* I work at CompUSA, in Garden City, New York, and am therefore fully qualified to be called a complete geek.. It also means I'm very short on time as of late - between school, work, Phi Theta Kappa and the newspaper...

One final thing -- and Tiffa^_^ has probably been the only one to notice - my DALnet IRC nick is now Saint_NYC.

August 31, 1998

Something weird happened to my counter. There was about 3700+ hits before, and then I looked today and it's been reset. Very, very weird. Oh, well - I may just code my own counter. *grumble*

July 28, 1998

I received Wanderer's submissions of Section 2 results and Section 3. It hasn't gone up on the newsgroups yet because my news server is busted. The problem should be fixed in a day or so.

I'm in the process currently of updating the local versions of these pages. So don't get your knickers in a twist, they'll be there shortly.

IRC DALnet is hosting Channel #MVFC - the Multiverse Fighting Council channel. My nick: Sanzenin. Applications for operators are now being reviewed. If you're interested in becoming a channel op, write me at arctic@slack.net.

First of all... So no one says I didn't remember.. Happy birthday, Dawn.

Okay, now on to a few things... I've downloaded a few things from the original UVR page. Among the most obvious: UVR1. I'll put those up momentarily.

I'm impressed -- 1600 hits within 2 months. Maybe this is bigger than I thought. I'd imagine we're averaging about 32 hits per day, which still isn't a lot, but it's more than I had. I've redesigned the page slightly so that it's a bit mroe accurate -- so that hits don't actually register from hitting the URL multiple times as often. This was accomplished by putting no reverse link to the title archive page, but rather giving everyone easy access to the stories by having everyone click a stationary frame (idea inspired by the old layout of The Video Game FAQ Archive.

Speaking of inspiration... I think the links page will be updated (dead links cleaned up) before the end of this week. I'm working on projects for my desktop publishing class at Nassau Community... Got two of 'em back today -- both A's. Woo hoo!

Finally... We're still waiting on Wanderer to finish Section 1 results. Hurry yo' @$$ up, boy!

I know. You went to the old page and it told you to come to this place. It's radically different. I decided a change was in order (you know us artists)...

Lessee -- what have I done to this place? I organized it into frames (sorry guys who don't have frames -- I'll add a non-frames version soon). You can now more easily navigate using the menu frame on the left.

Next -- we now have a message board. Post at will, and post to your heart's content. And yes -- you can use HTML tags on the message board. Please don't abuse it, or I'll just turn it off.

In the works: a users page. The regulars to the chat/message boards will get links off the page...

May 6, 1998

The most immediate change: we have a guestbook! Sign away.

Just so you know, we're averaging about 25 hits daily. Let's see if we can break 1,000 by May 13... I'll be a happy man. Oh -- and don't forget to vote...

April 23, 1998

OK, here's the deal... As far as an IRC channel is concerned, I'm thinking of going Undernet. Which means the following has to be done before I apply for a registered channel:

  1. I need operators! Regulars who will be reliable and trustworthy. Wanderer will be better at helping me pick because he knows all of you better than I do. :-)
  2. Supporters! 10 of them, to be exact. And that means 10 people who will be using the channel on a regular basis.
  3. A name. I'm thinking of going with "#Multiverse." That way the topic won't just be limited to the UVR and Dream Tourneys...
  4. About a week worth of testing time. If we get enough support, then I'm going to try registering the channel.
  5. Your suggestions. I am hoping to make this a hopping channel, like #gamenation and #anime...
The idea: If I get 10 supporters, and the place is regularly hopping -- Awesome, I'll attempt to register the channel.

My IRC name is NYSndByte and Silvrbolt. Mail me at arctic@slack.net for more information...

Hi there.

For those who are new to the multiverse concept, welcome and enjoy your stay. If you've followed the WWF's "Royal RumbleTM," you already know the concept of how the UVR works. If not, imagine a wrestling ring, and no less than 200 fighters entered in a huge free-for-all tournament. Major band-aid factor. Of course, a fighter is eliminated by being hurled over the top rope (and usually something very odd happens to him). The winner is the last man/woman/thing standing.

For those who've followed the Dream Tournament and anything even remotely associated with the Multiverse Fighting Council, I hope you're all pleased with the hard work Thomas Wilde ("Wanderer") has done. Although my own involvement has been limited to the Ultimate Video Rumble (I've been actively reading since the end of UVR1), I've seen his work stretch beyond that and gather a following.

Of course, we can't forget the original writers for the Rumble, Christopher Bird and Brant Rogers.

Anyhow, on to the main point of this section:

There are several things I'll be doing to advance and promote this page as soon as I get a free moment. The current "To do" list includes the following (green indicates already accomplished things):

I'd appreciate any feedback concerning the stories to go to Thomas Wilde (wanderer@mvfc.gamedemo.com). Any feedback concerning the pages, layout, features and ideas for both should go to myself (arctic@slack.net).

Thanks for the support... And happy butt-kicking.

Scott Archer ("Silverbolt")
